8-Alarm Construction Fire

Crisis Communications

Parris Communications has significant expertise in the practice of crisis communications and reputation management. Our firm managed media relations and strategic communications following the largest fire in Kansas City history, which took place at a construction site in Overland Park, Kansas. Sparks from a welder’s torch in the midst of an extremely windy day ignited a newly-constructed apartment building, and quickly leapt to a nearby structure before spreading throughout the surrounding residential neighborhood. 25 homes were set fire in one harrowing moment.

Parris developed a strategy to manage the immediate and long-term needs of the homeowners, which included setting up a Fire Relief Fund. Efforts also included throwing a “Thank You Barbecue” for first responders and organizing the replacement of fire equipment damaged while fighting the blaze.
